People who believed in reformation of
the church were called reformers
Some people wanted more change than

What came in place of the feudal system?
Taxes came in place of the feudal
system
The feudal system did not work well so
they changed it
The kings and queens let their lords
pay shield money (money that was paid to support the government) instead of
sending knights
Many lords liked the change- preferred
to pay money than serve in the army
How did serfs become free peasants?
Payments also brought changes
Lords also wanted money and had there
serfs pay them rent
Serfs did not have to work for the
lord any more
Lords know became landlords
Serfs became peasant renters
Gave serfs and nobles greater freedom
The serfs no longer belonged to an
estate- could not use the land on a manor
Some landlords thought that they could
make more money by raising sheep- required fewer workers
A lot of peasants had no jobs and
therefore became free
